fantasies

when i was a little girl, not so very long ago really, i didn't dream about the perfect boy or my wedding day, or being a high-powered lawyer, either. i dreamt about owning a school bus. yes. a school bus. and i wouldn't paint it funny colors like the partridge family. i rather like the yellow. kandinsky, or somebody like him, said it was the color of insanity. i'm down with insanity. or at least it's manifestation in a color. anyway, this was my plan.

fist of all, i'd take out most of the seats. i'd leave say two rows in the front for people to sit and socialize with the driver whilest on the go. originally i had intended to leave some seats in as barriers, but i canned that idea and replaced it with colorful curtains that would have glass windows in them. safety first, you know. it would be like those old asian sedans, but not. there would actually only be one of these curtains. it would be smack in the middle of the bus, separating the "livingroom" from the "bedroom." the front portion of the bus would have a couch, an armchair, a stool, a low japanese style coffee table, and giant pillows. all hot glued to the floor. (it's not an entirely possible dream, but what dream is when you're 10?) this would be followed by the fancy curtain. i forget what color i decided it would be. i'm sure i was very specific about it at the time, but now i'd be inclined to go with a deep purple to set off the yellow. the bedroom would only have two things in it: a matress and one of my great grama's antique bookshelves with the glass door things (so the books wouldn't fall out during turns.) there would be no visible floor in the bedroom. and a dark retractable curtain would wrap around the whole thing. it would be like kerouac's on the road, but totally not.
